After 25 years off the air, it looks as though cult TV show ‘Twin Peaks’ will return… and original director David Lynch will make it happen.

It’s been a long time for ‘Twin Peaks’ fans. People have grown up, moved on… but when David Lynch announced that news that their favourite TV show will return in 2016, it was met with rapturous applause all over the internet.

Taking to twitter, director David Lynch announced the good news. And there was even a nice little video teaser to get fans going.

The utterly unsettling drama originally explored the murder of a small-town beauty queen… and after its original run from 1990 – 1991, it left an odd, David Lynch-shaped void. But now it seems a third series will mark its triumphant comeback as early as 2016.

“The groundbreaking television phenomenon, Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winner Twin Peaks will return as a new limited series on Showtime in 2016,” explained the official statement. “Series creators and executive producers David Lynch and Mark Frost will write and produce all nine episodes of the limited series.”

Although the original series was met with critical acclaim, there’s currently very little known about the new show. And while Kyle MacLachlan landed a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Special Agent Dale Cooper, it’s still unknown whether we’ll see him reprise the role in the upcoming series. Of course, it was once thought that a third series would expand upon Agent Cooper’s story… and perhaps reveal his fate after the cliffhanger of series two.

Whether or not we’ll see what happens to Agent Cooper remains to be seen. But it looks as though we may get some hints either way.
