Ryan Gosling In Talks For Blade Runner Sequel

Ryan Gosling Blade Runner

It looks as though ‘Blade Runner 2’ may have found its next star… as Ryan Gosling enters talks for the highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel.

According to Deadline, the 34-year-old Canadian actor is currently in talks for a role in the upcoming ‘Blade Runner’ sequel.

“Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Blade Runner,” they revealed, “the film that will be directed by Prisoners helmer Denis Villeneuve. Ridley Scott is aboard as executive producer. Harrison Ford, who starred in the original film, reprises his role as replicant hunter Rick Deckard.”

“The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original,” they added. “Story details, as well as Gosling’s character, are not being revealed.”

Of course, Gosling’s potential character remains a mystery for the time being… but I can’t help wondering whether he’ll end up playing a new generation replicant. Or perhaps he’ll end up as a Blade Runner himself.

Either way, I can’t help thinking that landing Ryan Gosling would be a rather good move.

“Tapping into what is considered hallowed ground is risky — even Scott got mixed results when he expanded his Alien film with Prometheus — but Gosling, the Drive star, adds a certain cool element to the effort.”

Obviously, the neo-noir sci-fi movie already has a certain ‘cool element’ due to the cult status of its predecessor. But can Gosling help the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel appeal to a much younger audience?

“Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Scott,” they added. And it’s said that production will begin in summer 2016.

But will Ryan Gosling be on set when the cameras begin to roll?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but here’s hoping they can work some of that old Blade Runner magic.
