New All-Female Ghostbusters Cast Confirmed

Ghostbusters Cast

It’s official – the all-new female Ghostbusters have been chosen… and Melissa McCarthy will be joined by Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

After decades in development hell, it looks as though Paul Feig has finally gotten the third ‘Ghostbusters’ movie off the ground… even if it is entirely different to what we imagined. Starring an all-female line-up, it looks as though ‘Ghostbusters’ will be getting some sass.

And now we know exactly who’s going to be dishing it out.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Paul Feig has already chosen his ‘Ghostbusters’ line-up… and it’s not exactly a huge surprise.

“Melissa McCarthy, who was already in talks for one of the leads, has signed on for the Paul Feig-directed reboot,” they revealed. “And Sony is now negotiating with Kristen Wiig as well as Saturday Night Live players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.”

Of course, Melissa McCarthy was practically a certainty. After all, she’s previously expressed great interest in the role and has worked with Paul Feig on a number of big screen projects including her breakout smash hit, ‘Bridesmaids’. And with Kristen Wiig appearing in ‘Bridesmaids’ too, it’s easy to see why she was chosen.

“Negotiations are ongoing, but the quartet are expected to sign on as the specter-seeking, poltergeist-punishing, phantom-phollowing foursome in the reboot, which is eyeing a summer shoot in New York.”

But will the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot be any good?

It’s no secret that the film has come under fire lately for its decision to cast an all-female line-up… and it’s certainly going to take a very different direction to the originals. Rebooting the franchise rather than following it up, I can’t help thinking that they missed the opportunity to get Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray back in the suits.

And I think that’s what we were all hoping for.

Will the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot live up to its name? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But with Melissa McCarthy in the leading role, it’s definitely not to be missed.

‘Ghostbusters’ heads to cinemas on 22 July 2016.
