Michael Keaton may have landed another comic book role… in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
According to Variety, the 64-year-old former-Batman is wanted for a role in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ solo movie… as the film’s main villain.
“Michael Keaton could be returning to the superhero universe — but this time, as a villain,” they revealed. “Sources tell Variety that Keaton is in early talks to play a villain in the Marvel and Sony co-production ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, starring Tom Holland as the latest Spidey.”
Of course, Keaton is no stranger to comic book movies, having starred in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ back in 1989 as the Caped Crusader himself. More recently, Michael Keaton lampooned his stint as Batman in the critically-acclaimed ‘Birdman’.
But this marks the first time for Keaton under the Marvel banner.
And then there’s the big question – which villain would he be playing?
Although there’s no official word on the villains of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, there have been rumours that we could see The Vulture appear in the movie… and I can’t help thinking that casting Michael Keaton in the role would be a stroke of genius.
“The Vulture will be in this movie,” claim Birth.Movies.Death. “Will he be the main baddie? Will he be a villain Spidey has to defeat in an opening scene? I don’t know, although old rumors that passed by my ears indicated a non-main villain role for the old bird.”
Either way, it looks as though Michael Keaton could find himself as Spider-Man’s next nemesis… and considering how accomplished he is, that’s definitely a good thing.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ heads to cinemas on 7 July 2017.
