Metal Gear Solid Movie Gets A Writer

Metal Gear Solid

Although little is known about the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie, it looks as though it’s just landed a writer…

According to Deadline, the Sony Pictures project has nabbed Jay Basu to pen ‘Metal Gear Solid’ – a film currently in development based on the successful gaming franchise.

“In-demand Brit writer Jay Basu has closed a deal with Sony Pictures to write the feature adaptation of fanboy favorite video game Metal Gear Solid,” they revealed. “The project is produced by Avi and Ari Arad and is being steered by production president Michael De Luca. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings Of Summer) is attached to direct.”

Of course, this is the second big writing gig for Basu in recent months, after landing a job over at Universal Pictures to aid with the relaunched ‘Monsters’ franchise. Although it’s currently unknown how he’ll be contributing to those projects.

But ‘Metal Gear Solid’ is another coup for the British writer… and with ‘Monsters: Dark Continent’ currently in post-production, it seems he’s really starting to turn heads.

Created by Hideo Kojima, the video game ‘Metal Gear Solid’ was released in 1998, and follows the story of Solid Snake – an elite special-ops soldier who infiltrates an advanced nuclear weapons facility in order to neutralise a terrorist threat… and save two very important hostages.

At the moment, we’re unsure how much of this story will be used on screen in the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie… and with numerous sequels to draw from, it seems there’s a wealth of story that could make it to film.

Of course, for now we’ll just have to wait and see… but it’s encouraging to see that the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ film is finally getting off the ground?

But will it be any good? That’s another matter entirely…
