Joss Whedon Rumoured For Star Wars IX

Joss Whedon Star Wars 9

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ director Joss Whedon is now rumoured for the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’. But could it really happen?

It’s no secret that Joss Whedon had a hell of a time making ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. After wrestling with the studio at every stage, the iconic director has since decided to leave Marvel behind him… but what’s next?

Some think he may have been snapped up for ‘Star Wars’.

According to Movie Pilot, the 50-year-old Marvel director is ‘confirmed’ for ‘Star Wars IX’… but it seems that’s not quite the case.

“The Get Your Geek On podcast this past Monday revealed that Star Wars will be the next stop for Mr. Whedon. While Rian Johnson has been signed for Episode VIII, Whedon is a lock at least for installment IX.”

Except, that didn’t actually happen. Movie Pilot editor Alisha Grauso goes on to clarify:

“That’s…actually not true at all,” she added in the comments section. “They were simply talking about directors they’d like to see take on the role of directing a Star Wars film and Joss Whedon’s name came up. That’s it. There was no confirmation. There was no revelation. And there was certainly no lock for it.”

Of course, the Marvel director recently made waves after leaving the franchise behind him… and after deciding to move on, looking for something on a smaller scale (with possibly a lot more creative freedom) it would seem a bit odd for him to snap up a ‘Star Wars’ gig.

But after the rumour leapt out onto the internet, the folks at Making Star Wars revealed that their sources claim “it is extremely possible”.

But that doesn’t mean that Whedon will be going anywhere near the ‘Star Wars’ sequel.

I mean, let’s face it – perhaps some talks happened after he decided to walk away from The Avengers. Maybe Disney were keen to keep him on the payroll and discussed the possibility. But that doesn’t mean there was ever a genuine offer – nor that Whedon accepted.

So for now, it looks as though he won’t be directing a ‘Star Wars’ movie. If that changes, we’ll let you know…

Do you think ‘Star Wars IX’ should be directed by Joss Whedon? Who would you like to see in the director’s chair? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
