It’s official – The Master is back in Doctor Who.
According to an official BBC press release, the former Doctor Who villain will be making a triumphant return in the upcoming Series 10… and that’s amazing news for the fans.
“John Simm will return as the Master to battle the Doctor (Peter Capaldi), new companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who.”
But how is that going to work?
Doctor Who fans will be well aware that The Master is a powerful Time Lord – much like The Doctor… and after John Simm’s stint as the iconic villain, The Master regenerated into Missy (played by Michelle Gomez).
“I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back,” said John Simm. “It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series.”
It’s no secret that John Simm’s version of The Master was a fan favourite. And that makes it huge news that he’s actually returning to the role – news that was originally spoiled in a news piece by The Sun.
And it looks as though the BBC have been forced to confirm the news.
“Nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who,” said Stephen Moffat. “But you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what the Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor. It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favourites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.”
How does his return come about?
John Simm was last seen as The Master back in 2010… but Doctor Who fans will have to wait to find out exactly when and how The Master makes his return to the show.
Still, it’s simply amazing to see John Simm back as The Master.
Doctor Who returns to BBC One on 15 March 2017.
