It has been some time since I first covered Disney’s announcement that they were bringing audiences a live-action ‘Cinderella’, but now a full trailer has been unleashed, and it’s pretty impressive.
In fact, since learning about its existence many months ago, there’s been little talk about this adaptation of the 1950 animated classic. Well, until now, that is.
A brand new, first-look trailer, lasting almost three minutes, gives a lengthy insight into what we can expect next Easter.
The footage is reminiscent, I think, of ‘Maleficent’. The Angelina Jolie-starring prequel to ‘Sleeping Beauty’ no doubt gave the folk at Disney the encouragement (not to mention financial heft) they needed, after it surprised everyone by taking almost $800 million at the worldwide box office earlier this year.
It certainly looks like a Disney movie, and is exactly how I’d imagine a live version of the Cinders tale to be like. The set designs, costumes and general feel of the film appears like it’ll do a fine job of transporting audiences into that fantasy world of fairy godmothers, evil sisters and lavish evening gatherings.
But will it offer anything new? A twist on the age-old tale, perhaps?
The cast ain’t too shabby, either. Starring a host of familiar faces, including Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Hayley Atwell, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgård, and Derek Jacobi; it’s the film’s lead, Lily James, that is perhaps the most unknown and inexperienced, yet has most screen time (naturally).
The actress — known for her roles in ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ — has a mountain of pressure on her shoulders, but I suspect the Disney faithful will accept this version of ‘Cinderella’ with open arms, much as hey do with a lot of Mouse House productions nowadays — Anyone remember that lil’ chestnut by the name of ‘Frozen’?
‘Cinderella’ is in UK cinemas from 27 March, 2015, and will hit the US two weeks earlier on the 13th.
Are you looking forward to this adaptation? Have you got faith in Disney to pull another hit out of the bag?
