Danger Mouse Casts Alexander Armstrong

All-New Danger Mouse

That’s right folks – ‘Danger Mouse’ is about to return to our screens… and it seems he’s being voiced by the wonderful Alexander Armstrong.

It’s been twenty-two years since the original ‘Danger Mouse’ hung up his eyepatch… but with a new series just around the corner, it looks as though Alexander Armstrong is set to take over the coveted role from Sir David Jason. And he’ll be joined be the equally funny Kevin Eldon as his trusty sidekick, Penfold.

“[It’s] about as close to a dream job as you could wish for,” Armstrong told the BBC News. “As a lifelong fan of Danger Mouse, I was ecstatic just to know that the show was coming back. To be actually involved with the reboot and to be taking [Danger Mouse] out to a whole new generation is about as close to a dream job as you could wish for.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time he’s done voice work for the BBC, having provided the voice of ‘Mr Smith’ in ‘Doctor Who’ as well as the spin-off, ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’. Perhaps best known as one-half of ‘Armstrong and Miller’, his comedy connections are obvious… and so the choice to cast fellow comedian Kevin Eldon in the role of Penfold is only natural.

“When I am recording the episodes, I’ll be making sure that at all times my eyebrows are at least three inches above my head,” said Eldon. Other cast members include Shauna MacDonald and Morwenna Banks… and Dave Lamb – the voice of Channel 4’s ‘Come Dine With Me’ – takes the role of narrator.

“We’re all genuinely bowled over to have Kevin and Alexander on board as Penfold and the mighty DM himself,” said CBBC chief Cheryl Taylor. “They are both funny and fabulously talented performers and will ensure that the series’ considerable comedy credentials are bestowed on a new generation of fans.”

I have to admit, I’m pretty excited to see ‘Danger Mouse’ back on our screens… and having grown up watching the original series, it makes a great change to the usual CGI cartoons that youngsters today have come to expect. And with an all new iPatch – a gadget-filled eye patch – it seems good old DM might have some new tricks up his sleeve.
