Borg Queen Wants To Return To Star Trek (EXCLUSIVE)

The Borg Queen

It’s been a long time since we last saw the Borg on screen… but Alice Krige – the Borg Queen from ‘Star Trek: First Contact’ – would love to appear in the ‘Star Trek’ reboots.

After the phenomenal success of ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ it’s safe to say that J.J. Abrams has proved you can take classic ‘Star Trek’ elements and give them an entirely new spin. But what about remixing the entire timeline? The Borg were the most-feared enemies of Captain Picard and the ‘Next Generation’ crew… but could they appear in ‘Star Trek 3’?

I caught up with legendary Borg Queen Alice Krige to find out whether she thinks the Borg could appear in the recently rebooted ‘Star Trek’ franchise…

“Who knows,” she said. “I think the Borg Queen is an enormously interesting character. I made a personal decision that she has always been around. Just because we didn’t know she was there, doesn’t mean she wasn’t. I think she’s been there since the big bang.”

Of course, this raises a very interesting question – since the rebooted timeline is drifting ever further from the original ‘Star Trek’ universe, could the USS Enterprise accidentally stumble into the Delta Quadrant, or into the path of the Borg?

It’s already been established that the Borg have existed for thousands of years… and while their exact history is still unknown, it’s entirely likely that they could be lurking in an as-yet uncharted region of space.

But would Alice Krige be interested in reprising her role?

“Absolutely,” she said with a certain glint in her eye. “Yes.”

It would certainly be an interesting turn for the rebooted original series… but would this amalgamation of original and ‘Next Generation; be too much for the fans to handle? It’s certainly an interesting concept, and having grown up watching TNG, I’m the first to admit that I have a certain love for the Borg.

But I can’t help feeling that’s just wishful thinking.

Of course, her time on set with the likes of Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart is bound to have been a wonderful experience… and she was keen to tell me quite how brilliant the rest of the cast were when it came to welcoming her on set.

“They were enormously welcoming, which was really very kind of them. They worked together very, very closely for a long time and were a really functional family. I mean, they really liked each other – they were like brothers and sisters. They were a great group. And they made me feel so welcome… it was a very good experience.”

But who was her favourite ‘Star Trek’ actor to work with?

“I spent much more time working with Brent,” she said. “Brent was in L.A. the same time as I was. Patrick was off in the Angeles Forest – they were shooting a sequence away. Brent was enormously helpful to me. We worked together, rehearsed our scenes together. And Patrick, of course, was wonderful but I had much less time with him.”

Obviously, with ‘Star Trek 3’ in the works, it could be the ideal time to reintroduce a new generation of ‘Star Trek’ fans to the Borg. So if you’re reading this Orci, get Alice Krige back on our screens. After all, resistance is futile.

Do you think the rebooted ‘Star Trek’ could ever feature the Borg? Would it be too much for ‘Star Trek’ fans to handle? Let us know what you think in the comments below…

As much as I love the borg presence in TNG all the way through to their amazing appearances in Voyager, I can’t help but think that the original (rebooted) crew would be no match for the Borg. Don’t get me wrong… My curious side says yes! Do it! But, the original series, as with “Into Darkness” has the Klingon threat. The Klingons and the Borg represent two very different challenges for the federation. Klingons pose a political threat, which, with much diplomacy, the federation overcome and strengthen their place in the universe. The Borg however, provide more of a military threat.

To sum up… I think I’d rather see Pine’s Kirk go head to head (fist to fist more like) with a Klingon foe before the Borg. I’m probably just being old fashioned

  • It might be interesting to see how the Borg could be developed in a 2016-2017 movie. Alice Krige was excellent as the Borg Queen and would be great for a new role in the next movie. What makes Krige special is her ability to bring human feeling into the character – both positive and negative – and capitalize on each. Her earlier role as the Borg Queen also brought a fair measure of real threat to keep the character interesting and plot unpredictable. She could conceivably be a leader who heads up an expedition to a new planet for the purpose of developing a futuristic civilization that must contend with First Contact with new species. This scenario would present its own challenges and explorations and someone of Krige’s abilities would be the perfect person to lead the effort.
